Sentimental Eclectic
Welcome to the Interiors by Kate blog, where I take you a bit deeper into some of my client projects. I'll talk about why I made each decision I did to make it easier for you to replicate in your own home. So, let's get started!
Many of my clients come to me for a refresh versus and overhaul of their space. I love small projects and quick transformations, it's amazing what new lighting and accessories can do! The client recently had this table refinished and wanted to keep it for its sentimental value, but she was ready to update everything else. The flooring and paint also stayed as this was a brand new home.
This room initially looked very builder grade with a small flush light fixture above the table. One of easiest ways to upgrade your space is to switch out the lighting. A streamlined candelabra design in modern matte black provides a nice contrast to the white washed country table. Creating contrast makes a space pop, so adding some modern flair with the light fixture, updates the country feel of the table.
I always recommend adding a rug to ground the space, especially in today's open concept homes. We went with a light taupe rug, with blue and gray accents to compliment the blue cushions on the chairs. This stylized floral print feels contemporary while still complimenting the traditional table. It also plays nicely off of the paint color, remember to repeat colors and patterns to create unity in a space.
I also added blue drapery for softness, drapery is always a must in my opinion, otherwise the room feels bare. I repeated the matte black color in the drapery rod and went with a mostly blue drapery color to contrast with the light gray walls. A subtle geometric print, compliments the floral pattern on the rug.
Finally, we added some photo collages along the left side. The client had a ton of family photos she wanted to display, so a wall of collage frames created the perfect place to show them off. I always recommend some kind of wall display for personal photos instead of a bunch of frames cluttering up surfaces. This way, your memories become art and it's less to dust!
